Global Women Leaders Voices (GWL Voices) SDG17 Partnership for the Goals

Gender parity remains elusive. Since its founding, the  UN  has never had a female Secretary-General and the UN Presidency has been held by 74 men and four women. We show a behind-the-scenes look of the 2025 UN General Assembly (UNGA) alongside former UNGA President, H.E. María Fernanda Espinosa Garcés (73rd General Assembly) and Global Women Leaders Voices (GWL Voices), a gender equality advocacy group of 73+ former women presidents, prime ministers, and ambassadors. GWL Voices is actively gathering support from countries and proposing a rotation between male and female leaders for UN Presidency and Secretary-General.

A delegation of Plan International girl ambassadors from six continents will also shadow the GWL Voices members at the 2025 UN General Assembly as they create a global, inter-generational sisterhood working for gender equality, sustainable development, and partnership for the goals.

This is a film about courageous sisterhoods.

Only when women work together can we fiercely protect what we

love – empowering other women and girls in the process.

Why Sisterhood Matters

Women’s relationships with each other matter. Sisterhood makes us more resilient, determined, and empowered. And when we honor the full depth and dimension of all our sisters, in all their intersecting identities, we generate solutions that benefit everyone. Dramatic change happens when small acts accumulate and compound; a better world is forged by small, determined groups who refuse to give up.

Women Get Things Done

Utilizing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a storytelling framework, we show how women are working together to solve problems and achieve shared aims from a large, global scale to the granular, local level. Highlighting a variety of non-governmental organizations, advocacy groups, activists, and ordinary citizens, we narrow our focus to six primary SDGs, across six continents, to inspire audiences.

What does sisterhood mean to you?

Our world needs fearless women and girls — courageous sisterhoods — who show us that not only is it possible, but it is essential that women take the lead in mending the part of the world that is within our reach.                                                                             #SisterhoodMovie
